    Lasting business legacies

Legacy. What does it take to forge a legacy, and what do that word and concept mean to you? To me, creating and leaving a legacy means putting your essence - heart, soul and passion - into something that will profoundly shape and impact the lives of others.

As we look at the Sept.-Oct. edition of The Bridge, we will explore and celebrate the power and influence of legacy leadership. Our focal point is the distinguished 2023 Legacy Leader Award, the ultimate recognition of exceptional leadership and service. We are honored to name Tom Dawson, former Dakota Chairman at Marsh McLennan Agency, as this year’s Legacy Leader. Tom is the embodiment of this honor, having devoted himself to championing the prosperity of our community and region. His contributions, spanning time, skill, resources and devotion, have enriched lives, careers, nonprofits, churches, businesses, The Chamber and the very fabric of our community. His leadership attributes also shine through his mentorship of individuals of all generations, both within his organization and the greater community.

You’ll also see first-hand the legacies that our businesses are leaving within our region. We are proud of the countless businesses in our region that are leaving their mark, enhancing our community, elevating their people and leaving a legacy for the next generation and future of FMWF.

We are very excited to announce the 2023-24 Leadership FMWF class. These participants, and their employers, have demonstrated a desire to enhance their leadership attributes and individual legacies. Congratulations to this new class, we look forward to engaging with you and witnessing your impact in our community.

When thinking about legacy leaders, oftentimes our minds gravitate toward influential public figures, U.S. Presidents or famous individuals. Today, we proudly introduce our Women Connect Celebration speakers, individuals who’ve personally experienced one such presidential legacy. The Chamber is privileged to present Jenna and Barbara Bush as our September keynote speakers, who will move you with their heartfelt stories, unprecedented challenges, unique perspective and actionable life guidance.

The Chamber works every day behind the scenes to leave a legacy for this region. A legacy that allows us to compete in a global marketplace and be a home for passionate, unique and successful individuals and businesses. We are thrilled to kick off another year with strength and momentum, focusing on our cornerstones and driving our community forward, to enhance the prosperity of our region.

As we look ahead to our Annual Celebration, the essence of a legacy becomes apparent – celebrating and honoring the past, as well as looking to the future with energy and foresight. Please join us on November 3, as we share our vision for tomorrow and recognize Tom Dawson and the many other individuals whose contributions have played a role in shaping our community
