Most professional development keeps education professionals in a classroom. EDventures takes them out into the world.
From the floor of a high-tech manufacturing facility to the heart of a precision agriculture lab, this unique experience puts you inside the industries shaping the future of students – and our region.Â
Hosted by the FMWF Chamber in partnership with the Cass County Career and Technical Education Center and NSF Ag Tech Engine in North Dakota (FARMS), this week-long program connects education professionals with local industries to help better prepare students for their future careers.
Five reasons why EDventures is worth your time:
1. See Inside Local Industries
You go behind the scenes at some of the region’s most impactful employers—spanning manufacturing, health care, IT, ag-tech and more.
2. Earn Professional Development Hours
EDventures offers professional development with purpose. You engage with real-world industry experiences that enhance your teaching and broaden your perspective.
With support from The Educators’ Lab, founded by former educator and professional development strategist Darcy Bakkegard, you have dedicated time throughout the week to reflect on what you’ve seen and turn it into classroom-ready content. The Educators’ Lab specializes in helping teachers reignite their passion and translate experiences into impactful, student-centered learning.
You’ll walk away with practical ideas, renewed confidence and a deeper understanding of how to connect learning to career pathways.
Participants can also earn professional development hours and have the option to receive graduate credit through North Dakota State University (Note: late registration fees apply after June 6).
By observing real workflows and hearing directly from employers, you’ll gain valuable insight into current and emerging workforce needs.
3. Expand Your Professional Network
Connect with fellow education professionals, business leaders and workforce development partners. These relationships can lead to classroom guest speakers, student internships or future collaborations.
4. Bring Industry to Your Curriculum
Translate what you learn into engaging classroom content. A recent participant redesigned a tech curriculum after visiting a local software firm—turning insights into project-based coding lessons tied to real business scenarios.
5. Equip Students for the Real World
EDventures helps you align classroom learning with workplace expectations—from critical thinking to soft skills and technical know-how. You'll return with strategies to guide students toward career readiness and confidence.
