By Hannah Kliniske, Director of Content Strategy, FMWF Chamber
2026 Leadership FMWF participants (L to R): Jessica Dunlap, Jenny Johnson and Nate Olson.
Get to know Jessica Dunlap, Jenny Johnson and Nate Olson, leaders strengthening their organizations and community through Leadership FMWF.
The 2026 Leadership FMWF class is gaining momentum, diving deeper into sessions that challenge them to think critically about leadership, community and collaboration. From exploring the intersections of business and social impact to tackling hands-on experiences across the region, these participants are learning what it means to lead with purpose and turn ideas into action.
Meet three members of this year’s class who are already using their experiences to strengthen their organizations and the broader FMWF community.
Jessica Dunlap: Leading with Empathy and Innovation
As one of the Managers of CM&I at Blue Cross Blue Shield North Dakota, Jessica Dunlap leads initiatives that drive continuous improvement, foster collaboration and support strategic growth across teams. Through Leadership FMWF, she’s focused on growing as a leader who blends empathy with innovation while expanding her network of changemakers.
“I applied for Leadership FMWF because I believe in the power of community-driven change,” Jessica shares. “As someone working on initiatives to support local students, I saw this program as a chance to grow as a leader, learn from others and gain tools to amplify the impact of these efforts.”
To Jessica, leadership is about showing up with authenticity and courage. “It’s not about having all the answers—it’s about creating space for others to contribute, grow and feel seen,” she says. “Leadership also means being willing to challenge the status quo and advocate for those whose voices aren’t always heard.”
She’s especially excited about learning from her peers and exploring how different sectors connect to shape the region’s future. “The behind-the-scenes experiences and community tours offer such unique insight into both the challenges and opportunities ahead for the FMWF area.”
Fun fact: Jessica was one of just 50 students nationwide to receive a scholarship from the Oprah Winfrey Angel Network. She even appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show to meet Oprah herself. The experience, she says, deeply shaped her belief in mentorship, community and giving back.
Jenny Johnson: Building Confidence, Connection and Community
As Tellwell’s first Story Maker Success Manager, Jenny Johnson has made it her mission to connect people, build processes and foster creativity. “I get to combine three of my favorite things—people, creating systems and supporting the community,” she says.
Whether she’s attending events, refining client experiences or helping partners feel valued, Jenny approaches her work with enthusiasm and heart. “Participating in Leadership FMWF will give me the tools to think deeper about relationships, build confidence in challenging moments and grow alongside inspiring peers,” she shares.
For Jenny, leadership means inspiring others to lead. “True leaders don’t just manage—they create environments where people feel motivated to take action, share ideas and step into their own potential,” she says. “Leadership should feel inviting and empowering. When people feel supported and energized, that’s when the best kind of change happens.”
She’s especially looking forward to contributing to the Communicate Change Initiative projects. “That’s where the heart of this program truly shines,” she says. “I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves and make a difference alongside this incredible group.”
Fun fact: Before joining Tellwell, Jenny created content for WeFest, interviewing artists like Jo Dee Messina, The Bellamy Brothers and Cowboy Troy. A proud WeFester since 2004, she’s camped in the same spot every year with her crew and still calls it one of her favorite traditions.
Nate Olson: Motivating Others and Giving Back
As Director of Development – Athletics with the NDSU Foundation, Nate Olson helps connect individuals, families and organizations who are passionate about supporting Bison Athletics. His work centers on building relationships and securing resources that drive scholarships, student-athlete programs and institutional priorities.
Through Leadership FMWF, Nate is gaining a deeper understanding of how nonprofits collaborate with the community and how he can lead efforts that strengthen both the university and the region. “As someone who asks others to give to the institution, I feel called to find new ways to pour back into the community through my own time and talents,” he says. “Leadership FMWF is helping me identify actionable ways to do just that.”
For Nate, leadership is about integrity and courage. “It’s not only about motivating a team toward a common goal,” he explains. “It’s also about doing—and standing by—the right thing, even when it means making tough decisions.”
He’s eager to continue learning alongside peers who share a commitment to impact. “I’m most excited to explore how current and aspiring leaders across Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo can work together to make a positive difference while also becoming the best versions of ourselves.”
Fun fact: Nate is an Eagle Scout, and he says community service has been part of his DNA since childhood.
Leadership in Action
As the 2026 Leadership FMWF class moves from exploration to action, participants like Jessica, Jenny and Nate are already putting lessons into practice—strengthening relationships, championing collaboration and shaping what leadership looks like in the FMWF region.
Their journeys highlight what makes this program so special: authentic connection, courageous growth and a shared passion for community impact.
