Chamber supports sandbag efforts
Moorhead, Minn. (March 25, 2019) – The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce announces its support to our local cities and counties seeking assistance with sandbag efforts to protect our community.
As yet another spring flood bears down on our region, The Chamber is working with the cities of both Fargo and Moorhead, as well as Cass County, to recruit volunteers to donate their time to help fill sandbags. The assistance of community members is imperative so that we can avoid mandatory shut downs of businesses and evacuations.
The Chamber is urging its members and their employees to join forces and get involved. We ask that employers allow their employees time off, without PTO, to volunteer with these efforts.
“Advocating for flood protection has been our number 1 priority for nearly a decade,” said Craig Whitney, president/CEO of The Chamber. “Aside from helping recruit groups of volunteers from the business community and our members, we have a seat at the table in public flood meetings, a working group of city and community leaders, to stay abreast of developments and plans regarding this year’s flood. We will not rest until we know our cities are safe. We do not want to see another close catastrophe as we did 10 years ago.”
For those that can help, following is the information we’ve received about how to get involved.
Fargo volunteer information
A Fargo flood volunteer website allows the public to see where assistance is needed and can be used both by individuals and groups in deciding when to volunteer. During operating hours, 200 volunteers are needed at all times. Students are assisting in the mornings, and help from the business community is requested in the afternoons.
