DESCRIPTION:In the spirit of the person\, Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr.\, and all that he has come to represent\, the community is invited to attend Umoja 53\, a celebration that will feature speakers\, singers\, dancers\, poetry and awards. Umoja in Swahili means unity. It has been 53 years since Dr. King's death. It's time to use our voice\, it's time to really push "Radical Change". This year's celebration intentionally engages all ages to ask the question: "what does it mean to be free?"\n\nCurated by Faith4Hope Faith Shields Dixon and FredsDissonance Fred Edwards this event is the culmination of group planning and community support. Presented by North Dakota Human Rights Coalition\, the list of supporters include Youthworks\, the Human Family\, High Plains Fair Housing\, City of Fargo\, Fargo Human Relations Commission\, Presentation Sister PBVM\, Arlette Preston\, and the list keeps growing.\n\nPeople from the community will be recognized at the event with "Radical Change Awards". These are individuals who will be celebrated for their work for change.\n\nIn light of rising COVID numbers\, proof of vaccination and masks will be required for in person participation. The event will be live streamed and recorded. Interested participants are encouraged to stay tuned to media alerts and the Facebook event page for updates.\n\nThe challenge at the end of the event is to continue making change in North Dakota through coalition building between groups of all colors\, background\, sexual orientations.
