As we reflect on Veteran’s Day this year, we want to thank the men and women of our armed forces for their service to our community and our country. We are so grateful for all that they do and the sacrifices they have made.
We also want to thank the businesses that help make our metro military-friendly through our
Honor Star program.
According to the latest U.S. Census Bureau’s survey of small business owners, there are 2.52 million veteran majority-owned businesses in the U.S. In the same report the, the Small Business Administration (SBA) reveals veteran owned small businesses employ more than 5 million people in the U.S. with an annual payroll of $195 billion. Additionally, they generated revenue of $1.14 trillion and represent 9.15% of all U.S. businesses.
During their time in the military, service members hone many skills that relate well to owning a business: being mission-focused, problem solving, persistence, resiliency, being a team player and adaptability just to mention a few. These skills are the same as we see in successful business owners.
