Chamber names Richard Solberg 2022 Legacy Leader, announces Annual Celebration

The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber has named Richard Solberg the recipient of the 2022 Legacy Leader Award. This prestigious award recognizes and emphasizes the important role and contributions of long-time local leaders in both shaping and serving the metropolitan community and greater region.

Solberg was selected by a nomination committee based on his leadership in business and in the community.

Richard H. Solberg serves as board chairman of Bell Bank. From 1968 to 1982, he worked for First National Bank, Grand Forks, N.D., and Citizens State Bank in his hometown of Finley, N.D. Solberg was named president and CEO of Citizens State Bank in 1979. Solberg became president and CEO of Bell Bank (at that time State Bank of Fargo) in 1982.

During Solberg’s tenure at Bell, the bank grew from a single north Fargo location to a regional bank and trust company, with multiple banking locations in North Dakota and Minnesota.

Solberg has served on numerous boards including the F-M Economic Development Corporation and the Concordia Board of Regents. He has received the college’s Alumni Achievement Award, President’s Award, Regents Award and Mission Medallion. Solberg and his wife, Jo Ellen, live in Fargo and have 3 grown children and 11 grandchildren.

“Richard Solberg’s leadership has had a tremendous positive impact on our community that will continue to benefit future generations,” remarked Chamber Board Chair Shawn Dobberstein. “Richard is thoughtful, passionate, caring and leads by example. He is always willing to serve and provide guidance for causes that will benefit the community. He is not a person who takes or needs credit for his contributions; he will always recognize and lift up the work of others on his team. He is so deserving of this prestigious Legacy Leader award from The Chamber. Richard, congratulations on this award and thank you for everything you have done to make FMWF a vibrant place.”

Solberg will be honored at The Chamber’s Annual Celebration on Tuesday, October 18, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Delta by Marriott in Fargo. Presented by Midco, the event will also serve as a reflection and celebration of Chamber and community accomplishments of the past fiscal year, offer a look at priorities for the next year and honor the organization’s outstanding volunteers.
