  • 2024 North Dakota election review

On June 11, North Dakota held its primary elections, where candidates for school board, park board, city council and city commission were officially elected and assumed office. In the upcoming November election, seats will be decided for the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, Governor/ LT. Governor, County Commission, State Senate and House, and other state-wide races.

As a long-standing leader in public policy and advocacy for the FMWF business community, The Chamber recognizes the importance of providing election information to our members. This ensures they can make informed decisions during election season. This article offers an overview of recent and upcoming elections and directs you to additional information on candidates and races.

Only 20% (120,350) of eligible voters cast their ballot in the June 11 election.

Low turnout has a significant impact on the down-ballot races, where results are often determined by a slimmer margin. For example, District 26 (Watford City area) held a notably close election this June with the primary coming down to just a 13-vote difference. In another notable race, Emily O’Brien of District 42 advanced from a 3-candidate republican primary by an 11-vote margin.

It is important to consider how you plan to vote in the General Election this November. The margins of victory are remarkably close, and the winners of local and county level races have a significant impact on the daily lives of their constituents. Be sure to read our articles that highlight Cass County local elections, elections at the legislative level and North Dakota’s state-wide races below.

The Chamber believes electoral participation is the cornerstone of democracy. This is why our team is committed to providing voters with information on candidates and voting. The Chamber will also cover the local election in Minnesota. This includes the Dilworth City Council, Moorhead City Council, Moorhead School Board and Clay County Commission. Candidates for these seats will all be on the ballot at the November General Election.
