    2024 Minnesota Primary Election Review

As Minnesota gears up for the November general election, the August 13 primary results have clarified the candidates who will be vying for critical elected positions. Voters have chosen contenders choices for all 134 seats in the Minnesota House of Representatives, a special election for State Senate in District 45, and pivotal races for the Minnesota Congressional Districts and U.S. Senate. These primaries have set the stage for the upcoming election, highlighting the candidates who will vie for these influential positions.

For The Chamber’s members, it’s important to note the 134 Minnesota House seats include District 4A (Moorhead), District 4B (Dilworth) and District 1B (Felton and Ulen), where voters will choose their representatives for the next two years.

In the State Senate, only District 45 (Wayzata area) is holding an election due to Sen. Kelly Morison’s resignation. No other State Senate seats are contested this year, as State Senators serve four-year terms. With a one-seat majority in the Senate, this election could determine whether the DFL maintains control or if Republicans gain a one-seat majority.

Minnesota's governor and lieutenant governor will continue their terms until 2027, unless Gov. Tim Walz advances to the vice presidency as Kamala Harris’s running mate. In that case, Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan would become governor, and Senate President Bobby Joe Champion would assume the role of lieutenant governor for the remainer of the term.

The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to keeping voters informed about pivotal elections, as civic participation is crucial for a vibrant and healthy democracy. Below is a list of the candidates advancing to the general election from the August primary.

This review highlights the results of Minnesota’s primary election, aiming to increase awareness of those elected who will shape the future of Clay County. This article does not endorse any political candidate, party or organization.
